Design and Display
The Galaxy M31 has an attractive and minimal design. The front of the handset has the display with a notch at the top center for the front camera. Flaunting a 6.4-inch, 2340x1080 resolution Super AMOLED panel the phone has a U-shaped notch at the top. It has wide viewing angles, bright colors, profound blacks, and pretty much brightness levels that you can enjoy even in sunlight. The bezels of the phone are pretty big as of 2020 standard.
Hardware and Performance
The handset is powered by Exynos 9611 chipset that you’ll spot on the Galaxy M30s, Galaxy A50s, and Galaxy A51. This processor can be seen on Samsung’s budget and lower mid-range phones. The M31 with this chipset is expected to run smoothly and handles your day to day tasks with ease. Similarly, there’s 6GB of RAM on both the 64GB and 128GB storage variants which can swiftly handle multitasking.
You can play games like Call of Duty and PUBG without any stutters or lags. The phone rocks Samsung’s latest One UI 2 on top of Android 10. The latest One UI makes a host of changes to improve the user experience.
The major improvement over the predecessor is seen in the camera segment. Galaxy M31 has a new quad-camera system that includes – 64MP f1.8 primary camera with a Quad Bayer array, an 8MP f2.2 camera for ultra-wide shots, which is identical to the one on the M30s. A new addition is the 5MP f2.4 macro camera. The fourth one is is a simple depth sensor for portrait shots.
The video quality on the Galaxy M31 is also decent as you can shoot in full 4K resolution at 30fps. The phone lacks digital stabilization and has a jerky autofocus snapping that can be distracting in times.
Battery, Connectivity and Others
Under the hood, the Galaxy M31 has a 6,000 mAh battery which can really last a long time on a single charge. While it comes to charging, the Galaxy M31 is in no rush. The phone ships with a 15W charger, which supports Samsung’s Fast Charge standard, but 15W for 6000 mAh battery is really below the standard of these days. The phone can charge from 0-40% only in an hour and fully charges the phone in two and a half hours.
Big battery with slow charger
The phone has a bottom-firing speaker which is decent in case of sound. It also offers a Dual-SIM option with 4G support on both and has a USB-C port at the bottom for file transfer.
