After the grand success of Redmi 8, Xiaomi has finally launched the successor - Redmi 9. The phone was initially launched in Spain and comes with a large 5020mAh battery. Redmi 9 features a quad-camera setup at the back with three lenses placed in one vertical line at the top center and one lens is placed on the side with an LED flash, which is similar to that of Redmi Note 8 Pro. Xiaomi Redmi 9 comes with a quad-camera setup at the back along with a 13MP primary shooter. There is a full HD 1080p display with a waterdrop-style notch and rear fingerprint sensor. Design and Display
Redmi 9 looks beautiful and looks remarkably similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro at first glance. It has a vertically mounted camera lens with quad-camera with the fingerprint sensor at the bottom along with a macro shooter at the right. This setup makes it look like a Redmi Note 8 Pro. Redmi 9 has a polycarbonate build with Gorilla Glass 5 at the front.
The handset has similarly sized 6.53″ LCD with a tiny teardrop notch at the top. These two phones even similar dimensions. Stepping up from the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi 8, the phone now has a full HD display.
The Redmi 9 packs a quad-camera setup at the back with a 13-megapixel main camera with f/2.2 aperture. Hardware and Performance
The Redmi 9 is powered by MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. This SoC is manufactured on a 12nm FinFET process and based on 2.0GHz ARM Cortex-A75 cores and small ARM Cortex-A55 cores. For the graphics, the phone has ARM Mali-G52 GPU. With this SoC, Xiaomi hints that the company is not discounting on using MediaTek processors. The Redmi Note 9 has the Helio G85 while the Redmi Note 9 Pro comes in Snapdragon 720G.
Redmi 9 is available in two memory variants of - 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. There’s also a microSD card slot for storage expansion which supports up to 512GB of microSD card.
Battery, Connectivity and Others
The phone runs on MIUI 11 on top of Android 10 out of the box. It will receive an update for MIUI 12 soon. The smartphone is fueled by a non-removable Li-Po 5020 mAh battery that supports the fast charging of 18W. Xiaomi seems to be using batteries of more than 5000 mAh in their 2020 mid-range Redmi phones and Redmi 9 is no exception.
