After the grand success of Redmi 7, Xiaomi has finally launched the successor - Redmi 8 in Nepal. The new Redmi phone is an upgrade of the company’s popular handset Redmi 7, which was launched in April of 2019. Xiaomi Nepal launched Redmi 8 along with another entry-level Redmi 8A. Redmi 8 falls on the Xiaomi’s Redmi’s 8th gen phone series that includes phones like - Redmi Note 8 Pro, bestselling Redmi Note 8, Redmi 8A and Redmi 8A Dual. The price of Redmi 8 in India is INR. 9,499. Whereas the price of Redmi 8 in Nepal is Rs. 16,499 for 4/64GB variant. Initially, Redmi 8 was launched at Rs. 14,999 in Nepal.

Redmi 8 packs a lot of features at this pricing that none other companies have offered. The phone comes with Waterdrop Notch and Dual Rear Camera Setup. This phone comes with a 5,000 mAh battery and has a USB Type-C port. On the rear of the Redmi 8 is the new “Aura Mirror Design” which is appealing. Let’s find out more details of Redmi 8.
Design and Display
Redmi 8 looks beautiful with its Aura Mirror Design. The phone has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front as it has a plastic back. There is a dual-camera setup at the top middle of the rear along with a fingerprint scanner sitting just below it.
The handset packs a 6.22-inch HD + dot notch display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The display has a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels with a pixel density of 270 ppi. The screen size of Redmi 8A and Redmi 8A is the same and you find no difference between these phones while looking at the front.
Redmi 8 Hardware and Performance
The Dual-SIM Redmi 8 runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie. Xiaomi recently rolled out the software update for the phone which upgrades the phone to MIUI 11 based on Android 10. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor and coupled with 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB storage capability of the phone which can be further expanded with a microSD card. Samsung latest Galaxy A01 runs of same chipset and is priced at Rs. 13,499 for 2/16GB variant.
Redmi 8 has a dual-camera setup at the rear. The primary camera has a Sony IMX363 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It has a 12MP lens that takes decent pictures. The secondary sensor is of 2MP which is a depth sensor. It is worth noting that the primary sensor used in this phone has also been used in Mi Mix 2S and Poco F1. Apart from this, the camera setup is equipped with AI Portrait and AI Scene Detection. The new edition of Redmi 9 comes equipped with Quad-camera setup.
There is an 8-megapixel camera on the front. It has features equipped with Artificial Intelligence. The phone also has face unlock for security.
Battery, Connectivity and Others
Redmi 8 is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery. It supports fast charging of 18 watts. However, a 10 W charger has only been provided in the retail box. Samsung’s Galaxy M21 comes with monstrous 6000mAh battery if you are looking for large battery phones.
Connectivity features of the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS / A-GPS, Infrared, Wireless FM Radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the backside.

The price of Redmi 8 in Nepal is Rs. 16,4999 for the same variant of 4/64GB. Earlier the phone was launched at a price of Rs. 14,999 making it the best phones in Nepal under 15,000 but later due to COVID-19 and other reasons, Xiaomi Nepal hiked the price of Redmi 8.
